About Us

Overview

bbi began by supplying plywood to the packaging industry but quickly realised there was an opportunity to expand the range. bbi now supplies product for a range of civil and commercial projects, from ply for acoustic dampening on a major roading development to appearance grade product to meet architects’ specifications for interior finishing. We distribute nationwide through building supply stores for the building industry, and we supply large industrial users such as the packaging industry directly.

In order to manage the considerable growth we’ve experienced over the last few years, we’ve employed the best people from within the building supplies industry, on both the retail and wholesale side, and now have over 100 years of combined experience within our team.

We have a wealth of knowledge and experience and offer tailored solutions to the needs of the project.

Rowe McGregor

General Manager

As a founding pillar of the business, Rowe is intrinsically linked to the identity and legacy of bbi. With a career dedicated to the building supplies sector, he possesses an unrivalled wealth of industry knowledge that guides the company’s long-term direction. While collaborating with the board on broader evolution, Rowe remains the primary lead on product procurement, ensuring the bbi range continues to meet the exacting standards he helped establish at the company’s inception. Rowe has worked in the building supplies industry all his life, with a wealth of knowledge in the timber industry.

Martin Wallace

General Manager Sales and Operations

Based in Hastings, Martin is the commercial lead responsible for the daily management of our Sales, Marketing, and Operations divisions. With a comprehensive background in branch management and supply chain logistics across both merchant and wholesale channels, he brings a 360-degree perspective to the business. Martin focuses on the seamless execution of our growth strategy, ensuring that bbi remains agile, efficient, and exceptionally supportive of our partners across the country.

Ryan Stowers

Architectural Specification Manager

Ryan is the technical lead of our specification division, serving as the primary point of contact for architects, developers, and industry professionals. With a deep understanding of the evolving regulatory landscape, he provides expert guidance on compliance, complex specifications, and technical integration. Ryan bridges the gap between conceptual design and structural reality, ensuring every project is durable, compliant, and precisely engineered.

George Cranswick

South Island Branch Manager

George manages our South Island operations while serving as the dedicated Account Manager for the West Coast. Originally from Hawke’s Bay and educated in Christchurch, he combines local insight with operational precision. Outside of the yard, George is a passionate outdoorsman, often found hunting or fishing across the rugged South Island landscape.
