bbi’s story began with humble beginnings in an open‑air onion shed in Flaxmere, Hastings. What started as a small, hardworking operation built on practical knowledge and strong local relationships has grown steadily into a respected national supplier of quality building products.
Today, bbi operates from a state‑of‑the‑art head office, warehouse, and distribution centre in Irongate, Hastings, purpose‑built to support our continued growth. Developed in partnership with the TUMU Property team, the facility features a 4,500sqm clear‑span warehouse with a 45‑metre span, a first for mass timber construction in New Zealand. The site is surrounded by canopies, providing a total of 6,500sqm of covered area, and includes a 300sqm architecturally designed office, alongside a 7,000sqm concrete yard and asphalt car park to support efficient logistics and distribution.
The building itself is a working demonstration of bbi’s product range. The office interior is lined with Blondeline Birch Plywood, detailed with refined negative joints, while the exterior features Textured PlyClad board‑and‑batten cladding, complemented by Kwila decking and Kwila slat shade screens, delivering a contemporary and functional design. Sustainability has been embedded into the development, with low‑impact drainage solutions such as vegetated swales and rain gardens used to treat and manage onsite stormwater.
To further strengthen our national distribution capability, bbi also operates a Christchurch distribution centre, providing improved service and supply to the South Island. The site includes 3,500sqm of covered storage and a 1,300sqm sealed yard, enabling efficient product handling, streamlined logistics, and reliable delivery to customers throughout the region.
bbi specialises in supplying plywood, hardwood decking, and composite cladding, providing durable, high‑performance solutions trusted by builders, merchants, and specifiers nationwide. We work closely with our supply partners to promote responsible sourcing, reduce waste across our operations, and support products designed for longevity and long‑term value.
